Sew A Rupee Into Your Cloak

The Hunt

They called her Scarlet
some folks reckoned that was her real name
but it wasn’t even her real fake name
though it was earned just the same
for after every successful bounty
she would weave a ruby bead
into her hood
It got to be that the heavy red cloak
was so crowded with jewelry that it
would jangle a melody
like Christmas bells harmonizing with
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

It is said that one time
she almost let her mark escape
She had been tracking him for days
and could tell she was closing
on the beast
for his foot tracks were packed
deep in the rough patches of dirt
and if the leaves were quiet
she could hear
his huffing and puffing
not far ahead
She needed the reward for
her poor grandma hadn’t tasted
sweet berry pie in over three weeks
and her cottage needed
a new security system to boot

Some say that Scarlet was ambushed
still others claim that she lay in waiting
for her prey to come to her
Either way
this mean and emaciated ol’ thang
who looked like he crawled out of
the pages of a wanted poster
came a’ sniffing up to little Scarlet
demanding that she pay for her trespassing
in the worst of ways

Nobody knows exactly what
happened during
that fateful encounter
and although some think that she
took pity on the Big Bad miscreant
Lil Miss returned to the Jewelers
that very afternoon
to purchase a new ruby
for her cloak
so folks can jump to their own conclusions

Haha, very mysterious ending there, Crazy Writer!

Seriously, though, stop calling me a Crazy Reader. I’m not crazy, I’m insane.

Say something, Crazy Reader!
